Culture of Death Marches On

I was outraged at several issues regarding abortion as it relates to the new administration and congressional leadership, so I’d like to share those thoughts with you.

FIRST, the short article below speaks for itself, as Nancy Pelosi tells us how birth control will help the economy:

  • PELOSI SAYS BIRTH CONTROL WILL HELP ECONOMY
    Sun Jan 25 2009 22:13:43 ET
  • Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi boldly defended a move to add birth control funding to the new economic “stimulus” package, claiming “contraception will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.”
Pelosi, the mother of 5 children and 6 grandchildren, who once said, “Nothing in my life will ever, ever compare to being a mom,” seemed to imply babies are somehow a burden on the treasury.
The revelation came during an exchange Sunday morning on ABC’s THIS WEEK.
  • STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?
PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?
PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.
  • END OF ARTICLE

Comment:  Thank you, Nancy, for you and the Democrat party’s continuing obsession with the culture of death, apparently valuing economic needs over the life of a baby
( I am assuming that your usual endorsement of contraceptive planning includes abortion on demand).  By the way, is not 3,000 abortions per day enough for you?  That’s 2 abortions per minute round the clock all year.

SECOND, an observation about our new president and his recent executive order:

  • News Release:
President Obama began his campaign to make abortion even easier and more accessible, by overturning a ban on state funding for family-planning groups that carry out or facilitate abortions overseas. Obama signed the executive order canceling the eight-year-old restrictions on Friday, Jan. 23, the third full day of his presidency.
The so-called “global gag rule” cut off US funding to overseas family planning clinics which provide any abortion services whatsoever, from the operation itself to counseling, referrals or post-abortion services.
The order won Obama praise from Democratic lawmakers, family planning and women’s rights groups but drew angry condemnation from pro-life organizations and Republicans.
    (End News Release)

Personal comment: I wonder how many Christians gave any consideration to the moral and ethical issues regarding Mr. Obama’s positions on abortion, which on record is abysmal.  I fear this is just the beginning of more serious policy changes that will endanger the lives of even more innocent unborn babies.  He has already promised abortion rights activists that he will sign the Freedom of Choice Act as soon as he got into office.  When he was an Illinois senator, he voted against legislation to protect babies already born from a botched abortion!  He has also supported the horrific and brutal practice of partial-birth abortion.

Although President Obama claims to be a Christian, he is also on record as saying that there are other ways to God, and therefore not through Jesus Christ alone.

  • The following info is from the website of Caryl Productions (full link at end):
In an interview in 2004 conducted by Cathleen Falsani of the Chicago Sun-Times, he says “I’m rooted in the Christian tradition. I believe that there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people.”
Nowhere in the Bible is there any reference to Obama’s many paths.  He clearly rejects a foundational and essential tenet of the Christian faith.
In that same interview, he was asked if he believed in sin, and responded “Yes”.  Asked to then define sin, he responded with  “Being out of alignment with my values.”
To the question: “What happens if you have sin in your life?”
“I think it’s the same thing as the question about heaven,” Obama responded. “In the same way that if I’m true to myself and my faith that that is its own reward, when I’m not true to it, it’s its own punishment.”  Again, this is a total disregard for the teachings of the Bible.
  • When asked about heaven, Obama demonstrated a clear ignorance of the Bible’s teaching on the subject of the afterlife. He answered, “What I believe in is that if I live my life as well as I can, that I will be rewarded. I don’t presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die. But I feel very strongly that whether the reward is in the here and now or in the hereafter, the aligning myself to my faith and my values is a good thing.”
  • Perhaps the most telling exchange from Falsani’s interview of Obama was the simple question:  “Who is Jesus to you?”
To Barack Obama, “Jesus is an historical figure for me, and he’s also a bridge between God and man, in the Christian faith, and one that I think is powerful precisely because he serves as that means of us reaching something higher. And he’s also a wonderful teacher. I think it’s important for all of us, of whatever faith, to have teachers in the flesh and also teachers in history.”
In commenting on this interview, Dr. Gary Cass* said:
“I’m more than a little skeptical of an avowed twenty year Christian who is so blatantly uninformed about the Bible and its teachings. How many of the two billion Christians in the world when asked ‘Who is Jesus?’ would get the answer wrong? How many couldn’t define sin as explained rather succinctly in the Bible?  How many have no idea what heaven has promised in Holy Scripture?”
    END OF ARTICLE REFERENCE

This is not a matter of choosing either politics or religion, and Christians ought to be involved in these areas as well.  Moral considerations need not be thrown out the window or ignored when addressing policy decisions by our leaders, especially involving decisions that affect the life of an unborn child.

My friends, I pray that Barack Obama will be convicted by the Holy Spirit and come to repentance, and acknowledge that Jesus is Lord, and the only true way to the Father.  Please pray for him and other leaders in our government who favor a culture of death by their very approval of every type of legislation which falls on the side of abortion rights.

“For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.”

Psalm 139:13-16

  1. I love it Manny!

Some in my family that voted for him have begun squirming because although they were warned about the total culture of death espoused by Obama, they still voted for him and now are beginning to see his first actions.

It amazes me that some Christians even consider voting for someone who voted 4 times in Illinois to deny care care for a baby that was birthed alive during a botched abortion!

Many claim that they voted strictly because of economic reasons. Maybe they should be reminded of the words of Jesus about how much God takes care of the birds of the field never mind his children.

For a Christian, moral reasons trump economic issues because we are promised sustenance in this world, but even if it weren’t so. No one suffered more than Jesus – why shouldn’t we? It would be a badge of honor as long as we stand for the truth, and for righteousness, and for the unborn.

  2. Good Job with your blog Manny.
Shame on those who believe that voting is in God’s hand. It’s like, I spill the milk (my opportunity to choose) and then I pray for God to fix it, isn’t it?

Nothing else to add to your comment or Fonso’s on abortion, just a few verses.

    Matthew 18
6-But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
10-“See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

    Matthew 25
40″The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’
45″He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

  3. Hey Fonso and Reinaldo,
Thanks for the opening comments to my new blog. It is very appreciated and I could not agree more with your biblically supported views. I hope to keep this going and somehow in a small way contribute to the ongoing “conversation”

Boy , I don’t like using that word anymore, as its been hijacked by the Emergents :-)…

  4. Manny; Thanks for posting this. Many are being deceived by the crime that is abortion and many mothers (and fathers too) have been victimized as well.
