Beware of: Jakes, Osteen, and Meyer

What if a Bible teacher:  teaches that there are many paths to God; does not know whether Muslims will go to heaven or not; and does not believe in the proper biblical teaching of the Trinity,  but instead teaches that the Trinity is “God manifesting Himself in three different ways, or “modes.”

What if a Bible teacher:  refuses to answer whether homosexuality is sinful; refuses to say whether homosexuals will not go to heaven; and cannot say for sure who goes to heaven or not, even atheists;  and teaches that “following your dreams” is what will make your life happy.

What if a Bible teacher: teaches that Jesus was tormented in hell by demons; believes he/she believes they do not sin anymore; and that you cannot be saved unless you believe that Jesus went to hell.

Would you accept any of these teachers as legitimate Bible teachers?  Would you use their books as good resources, knowing that they teach these things?  Are these teachings or beliefs okay with you, or are they demonic?  Would you warn your friends about them?  If not, why should you not warn your Christian friends about them?  Is it wrong to call out these teachers and expose them if they are preaching false doctrines?

I have been concerned recently about some friends who have been reading books by some of these teachers, and quoting them, and apparently accepting the false idea that these are good Bible teachers.  They are not, and so I give you a brief summary of just some of their false teachings and why you should stay away from them.  Instead you should have no fellowship in any way with them, and you ought to be getting more into the word of God than into their “inspirational, feel good teachings”

Here is the summary of three false teachers: Joel Osteen, TD Jakes, and Joyce Meyer.  All three also share the same kind of prosperity gospel or word-faith teachings that are heretical as well.  I will post additional updates with three more for you in a few weeks.

Please also go to the suggested video links for detailed shocking exposes of their ministries.

  1. Also, for your readers, Justin Peter’s series A Call To Discernment which addresses the WOF heresies and history:

What is particularly concerning is that often people do not understand that in an explosion of influence, countless churches around the world teach variations on the same WOF heresies even if the church/pastor does not seem to follow Joyce Meyers or others per se. These heresies are taught at Hillsong and literally hundreds of churches in Australia. In the past it was just the pentecostal/charistmatic churches. Now it is every denomination that is affected by this poison. Truly, we are without excuse before God is we follow after these false prophets with so many loving warnings from the saints.

Keep speaking out brother. It will no doubt keep you busy until the very end, as more and more join the ranks of false teachers. Add Brian Houston from here at Hillsong Sydney to your list. And may God bless you. Sherryn

  2. Reblogged this on The Narrowing Path and commented:
False teachers such as these are without excuse. Please don’t defend them. They do not repent of their false teachings. They smilingly lead people to hell. These are not merely ‘differences of opinion’. These are ravenous wolves making merchandise of people. Speak out against them, even to your non-Christian friends…who often can see them for what they truly are.

  3. Thanks for the links, Sherryn. Justin is solid. And a friend also just mentioned to me that I should get this video work by him. Appreciate your hard work as well on your blog! God bless you and all who are working hard to expose the false teachers and warn the believers.

I will check out the suggestion for Brian Houston. Are you saying he is in the category of these folks I reported on?

    Manny

  4. Hi Manny! Justin has just updated his series recently. For the grand total of $20 you can now buy it. Then you can run it at your church for free, just let him know. What an amazing guy.

Brian Houston is definitely a false teacher. If you go to Chris Rosebrough’s program Fighting For The Faith (fightingforthefaith.com) and enter Brian Houston in the search field, you will find several excellent sermon reviews. He teaches a blend of WOF/Law of Attraction/New Apostolic Reformation heresies.

Hillsong conferences here in Australia have featured T D Jakes, Joel Osteen, Rick Warren and Bill Johnson to name a few. Bad stuff all round, and very, very influential in Australia. His wife preaches too (don’t they all) and he gets paid around $350,000 salary plus the endless benefits. With the conferences, ‘College’, music, books, DVD’s and a multitude of other products and services, they are making merchandise of people and are now spreading their HIllsong cult of personality around the world. They may be many things, but Christians they are not.

Yep, they can definitely go on your list. I

  5. I hope those who are pointing fingers at God’s servants should beware of what HE said in the Word. Galatians 6:1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.

Romans 14:4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

Pray for them and do not take the position of an accuser.

  6. Good post, Manny. As bad as these people are, it’s worse that so many of their works have worked their way outside of the charismatic/pentecostal movement and into the broader church.

One of these days I’d like to see a book or article about the “pentecostalization” of American Christianity.

  7. Thanks for the comment, Nita.

There is nothing in scripture that teaches us that we should NEVER judge. In Matthew, we are told by Jesus that we should judge, but judge righteously.

Those who preach another gospel are NOT God’s servants- they are serving satan, either knowingly, or unwittingly. These three are false teachers, and that is obvious just in the minimal information I gave.

You quoted Galatians. Here is also another from Galatians you need to be aware of:

6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. Gal. 1:6-10

Note that the apostle Paul is judging, just by what he says in this passage. Also, recall the passages that speak of Paul’s commending the Bereans for scrutinizing everything he preached. He welcomed it. It’s the right thing to do.

I would suggest reading this very good summary on the question of Judging or nor judging, written by Yomi Adegboye. It gives clear biblical teaching on when we should or should not judge, and why.
